Realism

There was this issue in the early nineteenth century that was against subjectivity of the romantic fantasies. People at that time looked at life very different, because of the industrial revolution.  This movement formed in the late 1840's, the art that was created was all about politics and social issues. This is because of the 3rd revolution that happened in France, 1848. The name Realism came from a Parisian bar called 'Temple du Realisme'
Bonjour, Monsieur Courbet, 1854. A Realist painting by Gustave Courbet.
Gustave Courbet was one of the artist at that time, his art was against the standards of the academic practice and because of this a lot of controversy was caused. This is because  he stated and painted the truth for eg. if theres a fat woman he would paint her fat with curves and everything, he would not lie in his paintings.
